The Eros Association Inc is
Australia's national adult retail and entertainment association. We
function in the same way as other peak industry groups like the
Pharmacy Guild or the Motor Traders Association in that we unify our
members, lobby government and run a professional and ongoing public
relations campaign.
Established in 1992, Eros is the longest serving adult industry group in Australia
and we have earned a reputation for integrity and professionalism in
our activities. We seek to bring logical and popular perspectives to
love and sex rather than moral or religious ones. 'Make love not war'
is the philosophy that we bring to our political debates.
Although issues of sex, morality and the law are found throughout the site, it
is not intended for titillation but rather for information and
education.
Sex shops cater to people with a natural and healthy interest in their sexuality, writes Fiona Patten
So often, critics of the adult industry have far more to say about the detail of the industry than the industry itself. It is rare to see Proserpine mentioned in the pages of major newspapers (Perspectives, April 16). But a woman opening a small adult shop around the corner, and over 100m from a school, has attracted national attention. The residents of this small northern town are bemused and surprised at the fuss. Me? Well, I just think those who protest may be protesting just a little too much.
The vast majority of Queenslanders support the legal and regulated sale
of adult material. Twenty national polls since 1984 confirm this.
Queensland is the only state in Australia to prohibit the sale of adult
magazines and films that feature adults only and are classified by the
Federal Government as non-violent erotica. These products can only be
sold to adults, and in most states can be sold only from premises
restricted to adults, that is, adult shops. The result of this
prohibition in Queensland is a lack of laws that provide regulations
for adult shops.

Important Updates
Police Raids Adult Shops
NSW police have raided a number of adult shops in Blacktown and St
Marys over the last week, ostensibly looking for X18+ videos and DVDs.
It is illegal to sell films that have been classified X18+ by the
Federal government, in NSW.
Most people do not know that non-violent,
sexually explicit films showing consenting adults, are illegal to sell
in NSW or any of the Australian states for that matter.
It is estimated that up to 50 police officers spent at least 10 hours
each performing these raids and that at least another 200 police hours
will be spent on classifying and processing the thousands of DVDs that
were seized.
